A uniformed Civil War infantry soldier stands at parade rest, his proper left foot extending slightly over the front of the base. He is wearing a knee-length coat with a shawl over his shoulders. He is mustached and wears a cap. The soldier is mounted upon a tall, square, inscribed, multitiered base with the topmost tier being a cut-off obelisk.
