This abstract sculpture, which celebrates the history and natural attributes of the White Flint area and the Potomac River, consists of a vertical bronze cylinder encircled with phrases in foreign languages, and quotes in English from explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, President Thomas Jefferson, and naturalist John Muir. The words perforate the bronze cylinder and light from within projects the words around the surrounding granite plaza. Nearby, water flows along an undulating wall of white granite to symbolize the path of the Potomac River from the Shenandoah Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay.
