    The sculpture was originally placed at the residence of the United State Consulate in Seville, Spain, as part of the United States Pavilion at Expo 92. It was purchased by the Village of Friendship Heights in early 1992 and installed in present location. Cost of the sculpture was $70,000. Nearby plaque reads: "WHEN NOW BECOMES THEN"/By J. Seward Johnson, Jr./Collection of the Village of Friendship Heights/sited by Sculpture Placement, Ltd, Washington, D.C./This bronze sculpture was placed on exhibit at the/American Consulate during the 1992 World Expo in/Seville, Spain-April 1992 through October 1992.
