Sculpture consists of a flat, square, rough-hewn basin with a smaller, similarly shaped upright form at the end. A seal's head is installed on the center of this form. Water spouts from its mouth. There is a caged light bulb atop the piece.

Commissioned by the Centennial Committee of the Seal Harbor Village Improvement Association in 1909. The fountain commemorates the centennial of Seal Harbor and the establishment of the first home there built by John Clement in June 1809. IAS files contain an excerpt from the book "Mount Desert: an Informal History," edited by Gunnar Hansen, Mount Desert, ME: The Town, 1989.
