A figure of a Civil War soldier, dressed in a military uniform consisting of a knee-length coat, a cape, and a brimmed cap, stands at parade rest holding the barrel of a rifle with both hands. The butt rests near his proper right foot. The figure is placed atop a tall base with a circular upper half, an octagonally-shaped midsection decorated on four of its sides with emblematic designs of the G.A.R., the W.R.C., an anchor and chain, and crossed muskets and a knapsack, and a four-sided lower section.

The Stephen Davis Post #11, Grand Army of the Republic, initiated the idea for a monument to honor their "comrades in arms." The monument cost $3,300.
