Administered by State of Maine, Department of Education, School Administrative District #56, Third Class Road, Searsport, Maine 04438
Located Frankfort Elementary School, Frankfort, Maine 04438
    Remarks:
Commissioned under the Maine Percent for Art Program for $7,000. The granite was donated by the Town of Frankfort. The sculpture was controversial when installed, as several citizens were concerned about the expense, safety and aesthetic value of the work. IAS files contain related articles from the Republican Journal, June 21, 1990, the Bar Harbor Times, Sept. 20, 1990 and the Bucksport Free Press. According to the artist, the concept for the sculpture was to "symbolize the elementary evolution of granite from a naturally existing state to man's use of it to build his first permanent structure."
