Description:
A youthful Confederate soldier stands at parade rest with both hands resting on his rifle. His proper right leg is reinforced by a tree stump that extends the entire length of his leg. Slung across his back and rolled under his proper right arm is a blanket or groundcloth. On his proper left is a bayonet, a pouchbelt and gunpowder sack. He is clothed in a Confederate jacket, britches, boots and brimmed hat. The sculpture is mounted on a square shaft with a capital that rests on a three-tiered base. There are cannon balls on the four corners of the base's top tier. The sculpture is enclosed by a wrought-iron fence.
