Description:
A figure of a Union Civil War soldier, dressed in a military uniform consisting of a long coat and cap, stands holding a rifle with both hands. The butt of the rifle rests near his feet. The figure stands atop a tall elaborately decorated and inscribed base.

Remarks:
The Union Memorial was reportedly the only Union monument south of the Mason-Dixon line erected by public subscription, with the exception of those in cemeteries, and was dedicated to the 107 Lewis County soldiers who gave their lives during the Civil War. IAS files contain partial transcriptions of texts on base and transcriptions of nearby plaques.
