His hands are clasped in front of him, holding the top of a bronze sword which extends downward on front of a rectangular base, with relief of a cross and circle. The base is flanked on either side by a low-columned marble exedra and platform, topped on each end with an urn. Threaded metal holes in front of platform probably once held flagpoles.
