    Description: 
    A marble figure of a Civil War soldier standing at parade rest. He holds the upper end of a rifle with both hands at his chest, the proper left hand placed above the proper right hand, with an appreciable amount of space between them. Only the uppermost portion of the rifle is extant. The soldier is clean-shaven and wears a brimmed cap and a short tunic coat with a bayonet in a scabbard hanging on his proper left side from a belt. A short tree stump adjoins the figure's proper right leg. The figure's proper left leg is set slightly forward. The sculpture is placed atop a square base, set atop a larger granite base. The west face of the base is polished; the other sides are rough cut.
