Description:
A Civil War soldier standing at parade rest, with left leg forward. The soldier holds the upper end of his rifle with both hands, left hand above his right hand, with the hands touching. The butt of the rifle is placed on the ground near the outside of the soldiers proper right toe, with the rifle turned so that the trigger guard faces outward to his right. The soldier has a prominent mustache, but is otherwise clean-shaven. He wears a cap, and a cape buttoned at the neck. The cape is unbuttoned from the waist down and is flung back on the proper left, as if blown by wind. The cape is encircled by a belt with a bayonet hanging from its proper left side. The sculpture is placed atop a tall multitiered base that is surrounded by a low wall with a limestone ball decorating each of the four corners. The base is decorated with bas-reliefs of crossed sabers; an American flag; and crossed cannon. A band of five-pointed stars, six to each side, extends around the upper midsection of the base.
