Remarks:
Erected by Hardin County for $3,000. The monument has been moved within the courthouse grounds, but has remained stationary since 1892. This is reportedly one of only four Civil War monuments in Iowa and one of the only known ones west of the Mississippi River. A drive to restore the monument was initiated ca. 1985. IAS files contain a "Hardin County Civil War Statue Restoration Project" brochure.
