    Remarks:
The mermaids were originally installed on an arched bridge at 30th Street and Fall Creek Parkway. They were removed when the bridge was torn down in 1959. They were then in the possession of A. T. Gravelie, and later owned by his son, Thomas Gravelie. According to local legend, the mermaids were actually two young women who sought to leave the inner city. They got as far as 30th & Fall Creek Parkway when they looked back and were turned to stone. IAS files contain a related article from the Indianapolis Star, June 23, 1988.
