SAILORS/AND MARINES/OF THE/WAR OF THE REBELLION/1861-1865 (East side of base:) ERECTED BY/DEACON/RELIEF CORPS NO. 48/1909 unsigned Description:  Figure of a Union soldier standing at parade rest. He wears a uniform consisting of a long coat, a cape buttoned at the top and a cap. The mustached figure holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands. The butt of the gun rests in front of his proper right foot. There is a shallow relief of a 13 star furled flag on the front of the base.
