Description:
A composition of seven figures, two adults and five children, seen hiking. They are wearing backpacks. The leading adult holds a walking stick, the last figure is seen encouraging the last two children.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by Joe Kruger, founder of Camp Mah-Kee-Nac in Lenox, Massachusetts, and Trustee at the national headquarters. He commissioned the sculpture in honor of his late wife Frances (d. 1986). IAS files contain copy of dedication program and article from Camping Magazine, Nov./Dec. 1987.
Nearby plaque reads: "THE ESSENCE OF CAMPING"/Presented by Joseph Kruger, who shared in the direction of Camp Mah-Kee-Nac for boys/Lenox, Massachusetts 1929-1983/presented at the re-dedication of/the American Camping Association Headquarters/November 13, 1977 Artist: Peggy Goldstein.
