    Description: 
    A young, uniformed Civil War private stands holding the barrel of his rifle by his side with his proper right hand, the stock resting by his foot. He is clean shaven and wears a field hat, a blanket roll slung over his proper left shoulder and gathered at his proper right hip. A pouch is attached to the soldier's belt at his proper left waist. The soldier holds an object in his proper left hand, which may have been broken off. The back of his proper right leg leans against a tree stump. The sculpture is mounted upon a square, multitiered, graduated base with reliefs of crossed sabres and a waving Confederate flag on the sides.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the 895 Confederate soldiers of Butts County, Georgia. It was erected by the Larkin D. Watson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), of Butts County, the $1,940 cost raised by fundraising activities. IAS files contain excerpt from "History of Butts County, Georgia," n.d., pg. 350-352; and related Butts County brochure, c. 1992.
