    Description: 
    A life-size statue of Seminole leader and medicine man Sam Jones leading a Seminole woman and child to safety. He is wearing a long-sleeved tunic, a turban with a feather touching his proper right shoulder, a sash and a powder belt around his neck and an earring on his proper right ear. His knife and sheath rest on his proper left hip and a decorated bag on his proper right hip. He is wearing soft leather boots without heels with the soles brought up the sides of the foot and over the toes where they are joined with a puckered seam. His proper right arm extends forward pointing. His proper left hand is placed on the woman's back. Life-size figure of Seminole woman is dressed in traditional Seminole dress, wears beads around her neck and carries a naked infant on her proper left hip. Infant's proper left hand clutches her dress at her chest.

    Remarks: 
    The cost of the sculpture was $60,000, with half of the funding provided by the Seminole tribes; $15,000 contributed by the county and the remainder by private donors. Sam Jones was part of the Mikasuki group of Seminoles. His real name was Abiaka (or Arpeika). A medicine man and leader, Jones fought the Second Seminole War (1835-1842) and the Third Seminole War (1855-1858) with the U.S. government. Jones' tribe lived near Pine Island in Broward County during 1838 conflict. He died somewhere in the Big Cypress Swamp about 1869.
