    Description: 
    Two plaques fastened to the walls on either side of the entrance to the Gunn Memorial Library. One plaque contains the inscription, the other depicts Mr. & Mrs. Frederick William Gunn in bas relief. They are shown from the chest up; she with head covered, he with a beard.

    Remarks: 
    Frederick William and Abigail Brinsmade Gunn founded the Gunnery School, a private preparatory school, in Washington, CT in 1850. The school's campus adjoins the library. Mr. Gunn was instrumental in organizing the library association, which preceded the present one. Van Ingram, an import-export merchant active in the construction of the library, is said to have arranged for the plaques.
