    Remarks:
The town authorized $1,000 for the execution of the memorial, done in tribute to the town's Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. The pedestal was originally topped by a metal cannon. When that cannon deteriorated earlier in the 20th century, it was replaced by the present wood cannon. For further reading see: Charles F.
