Remarks:
The fountain was a gift of DeLambre Bates (1847-1921) and was built as a utilitarian device to provide water to animals. In addition to the fountain, water rights to the spring which feeds it and $500 were included in the gift to the town. The money was to be used for maintenance of the fountain.
