(Inscribed on side of sculpture base:) M MARTINO 1924 (Inscribed opposite side:) AMERICAN ART FOUNDRY - N.Y./1898 (incised snowflake rosette) 1902 signed Founder's mark appears.
Description:
"A life-sized figure of a Spanish American War serviceman, stands facing east on a high granite pedestal. In full field uniform, he is striding forward with his proper right leg in front. His rifle is held at the ready, proper right; his proper left hand grasps the barrel; his proper right the trigger. He is wearing leggings. An ammunition belt is around his waist, bayonet at proper left hip, canteen fastened to the belt, and knapsack on his back. A bedroll is around his shoulders, shirt sleeves rolled up, and a soft hat on his head."

This monument is also a memorial for the U.S.S. Maine and presumably one of the two missing plaques was cast from metal from the U.S.S. Maine.
