    Description: 
    A granite slab inscribed with names of war dead, topped by an American eagle. The slab rests on a concrete base.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was approved by the County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 20, 1919 and cost $2,475. The monument (minus the shaft, which arrived late) was dedicated on July 7, 1919. When the monument was originally erected, only four names of war dead from the County were inscribed on the slab. The names of J.S. Walker and M. M. Synder were added several months later after their deaths were confirmed. IAS files contain related newsclippings from Cheyenne County News dated Jan. 20, 1919, pg. 1; Feb. 20, 1919, pg. 1; and July 10, 1919, pg. 1.
