Description:
A figure of a Confederate soldier, dressed in a military uniform that includes a brimmed hat, stands against a tree trunk at his proper right side and holds the barrel of a rifle in front of himself with both hands, the butt rests at his feet. The figure stands atop decorated base that is placed on a platform.

Remarks:
The figure was erected to honor the Confederate soldiers of St. Clair County by their descendants through the Ashville Chapter of U.D.C. The figure's rifle is a replacement of the original. IAS files contain a related excerpt from Ralph W. Widener's "Confederate Monuments: Enduring Symbols of the South and the War between the States," Washington, DC: Andromeda Associates, 1982, pg. 1; and a historical photocopy of a picture of the monument on the day of its dedication.
