    Remarks:
In 1943, the Framingham Improvement Association received a legacy of $1,500 from the will of William H. Smith who requested that the money be spent on a suitable tablet marking the old Indian Burial Ground on the South End of the Framingham Common and that Raymond Porter be selected to design the memorial. World War II delayed the project until 1946 when arrangements were made to use Porter's design for the three bronze reliefs. The project was further delayed by problems securing the proper granite from the quarry. Anthony M. Zottoli was responsible for executing the stone work.
