Remarks:
Robert Crittenden was born in 1797 in Kentucky, and came to Arkansas in 1819 to serve as the first Secretary of Arkansas Territory. He married Anne Innis Morris, sister of Mary (Morris) Bertrand, wife of Charles Pierre Bertrand. Crittenden was a leader of a political faction in Arkansas politics, but was removed from office in 1829 President Andrew Jackson. He continued to be active in Arkansas politics until his death in 1834. He also built a residence on Little Rock's east side, which he tried to promote as the "Capitol."
