    Remarks:
Seven finials were originally ordered by George Rapp of the Harmony Society, to decorate the top of a pavilion intended for housing a sculpture of Harmonie by William Rush (see IAS record number PA000702). Each finial included an urn, but no two urns were identical. One finial was larger than the other six and was intended for the top of the pavilion.
IAS files contain correspondence from Daniel B. Reibel, curator of Old Economy, to Dr. Karl J. R. Arndt, Department of German, Clark University, dated Jan. 7, 1975, and an excerpt from "Art in Nineteenth-Century Pittsburgh," Pittsburgh: McCullough Communications, 1977, which suggest the finials may not have been installed on the pavilion. IAS files also contain correspondence dated Jan. 6, 1992 from R. V. Shepherd, Jr., director of Old Economy Village to William H. Woodwell and newspaper articles from The Gazette (Philadelphia, PA) May 1831; and the Times Weekly, July 16, 1964.
