Remarks:
The sculpture was installed in memory of the those who fought for the Union during the Civil War. The sculpture was erected by the John W. Christian Relief Corps No. 124. It was set by Wood and Funk Monument Company in a grassy plot on North Eau Claire Street. Due to increased transportation, the sculpture was moved to North Jackson Street in a city park north of the high school. When a new high school was constructed on the site, the sculpture was relocated to Mirror Lake Park. IAS files contain a copy of the dedication program and an excerpt from Houser Rockwell's "West Central Wisconsin and Mondavi Area History," pg. 283-284, which indicates that inscription on base may include or may have once included, "As long as our Civil War soldier stands, Mondovi will pay tribute to our departed dead of all wars."
