    Remarks:
When the Michigan Department of Natural Resources decided to build a fish ladder to help spawning fish swim up the Grand River, artist Joseph Kinnebrew suggested that a viewing structure be built over the fish ladder to allow visitors to observe the fish. The Department of Natural Resources provided funds for the ladder, but various organizations, including the National Endowment for the Arts, contributed funds for Kinnebrew's concrete viewing structure. Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $40,000 given in 1974 to the Arts Council of Grand Rapids. IAS files contain excerpts from a sculpture brochure that includes statements by the artist and the project director.
