    Description: 
    An Indian brave dressed in a loin cloth sits bareback on a rearing horse. Alongside him, on his proper right, is a great white buffalo. The Indian signals his presence by touching the blunt end of his spear to the buffalo's back with his proper right hand. The sculpture is mounted on a base in the center of a reflecting pool.

    Remarks: 
    A bequest from the estate of Clyde Degginer, a Kansas native. In April 1982, soon after winning the contract for the buffalo sculpture, the artist died. His son, William G. Winter, saw the work to completion. The sculpture was created in Italy and shipped to the United States. IAS files contain Dedication remarks and related articles from the Topeka Capital Journal (Topeka, KS), Oct. 1, 1983, pg. 1; and "The Kansas History: a Journal of the Central Plains 7:1 (Spring 1984): pg. 50-57, which gives history of white buffalo in Kansas.
