Description:
The memorial consists of three full-length figures set on a multi-level concrete base. A female figure wearing a long hooded robe stands in the center, on the highest part of the base. Her proper left arm is raised high and holds a torch. Her proper right arm is extended, hand open and and palm facing up. She stands atop an orb. Two male soldiers stand below on either side of the center part of the base. The soldier on the proper left is shirtless and wears a hat and trousers. In his hands he holds a mortar. He stands with his body facing to the right and his head turned toward the front. The soldier on the proper right wears a long-sleeve shirt, trousers, boots, hat, and cartridge belt. In his hands he holds a rifle.

Remarks:
Sculpture is a replica of 1950 marble sculpture by Roger Noble Burnham. The original sculpture, which was located at the Wadsworth Hospital Center, was destroyed in an earthquake in 1971. This replica was created by David Wilkins in 1973. SOS! survey reports sculpture made of plaster and concrete. Article in Los Angeles Times, Nov. 28, 1973 reports sculpture made of wire mesh and fiberglass. IAS files contain copies of related material from Los Angeles Times May 1, 1950 and Nov. 28, 1973.
