    Description: 
    A column comprised of intertwined figures, representing humanity, reaches up supporting a teardrop-shaped form, wherein sits the Madonna. A descending dove is set on top of the teardrop form, representing the spirit of peace. Sculpture and base are part of a low standing rectangular fountain in a plaza.

    Remarks: 
    Gift of Lawrence E. Deutsch and Lloyd E. Rigler. Commissioned by the Art Committee of the Music Center's Performing Art Project for $250,000. Design is a variation on a theme previously employed by the artist for his "Notre Dame de Lisse" in Assy, France. Fountain was designed by Wet Design in 1987. IAS files include the following related articles and documentation: Los Angeles Times West Magazine (dated April 27, 1969); Los Angeles Times (dated Oct. 20, 1966, Sept. 16, 1967, and April 18, 1969); an unpublished summary by Michael Several (dated Sept. 13, 1990); and a CRA inventory form. Plaque on bench near sculpture reads: THE PLAZA FOUNTAIN/DESIGNED BY WEST DESIGN/LOS ANGELES, CA USA/(copyright symbol) 1987 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED/US PATENT # 4,892,250-OTHER US & FOREIGN PATENTS APPLIED FOR.
