THE COLORED TILES/REPRESENT THE SENECA CHIEF CORNPLANTER, A SENECA CLAN/MOTHER AND THE "THREE SISTERS", CORN, BEANS, AND SQUASH/WARREN COUNTY SENECA HERITAGE COMMITTEE unsigned
Description:
Abstract polished black granite birdstone, or atlatl, set on a concrete base. Tile mosaic medallions decorate two faces of the sculpture. One medallion features the head of a Seneca Indian clan mother. She has long, dark hair and is smiling. On the opposite side is a medallion featuring a mosaic portrait of Chief Cornplanter. A third tile mosaic covers most of the triangular back of the sculpture and depicts a stylized rendering of corn, squash and bean plants.

Remarks:
Cost of the sculpture was $50,000. Funds were raised by members of the community. The sculpture is covered during the winter months. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Warren Times Observer, May 26, 1987, related fund raising publicity and artist's drawings.
