Remarks:  John Josephus McAlmont was born on Dec. 19, 1821 in Hornellsville, New York, the son of Daniel and Samantha (Dunham) McAlmont. He died on Sept. 25, 1896. He married Martha Jane Gregg on Oct. 22, 1845 in New Almond, New York. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and was the first mayor of Little Rock after the war in 1866, and was a Little Rock alderman in 1867. He was on the faculty of the University of Arkansas Medical School. The town of McAlmont, Arkansas was named for him. The artist was the sister of John J. McAlmont.
