Remarks:
This piece was funded by a group of New York businessmen, each of whom subscribed 500 dollars. An article in the The Home Journal (New York), Dec 9, 1854, 2:3-5, notes that H. K. Brown has nearly completed the model for the equestrian statue of Washington to be cast at Ames in Chicopee, Massachusetts and installed in Union Square. Tthe likeness of Washington was modeled from Houdon's bust of Washington.
