    Description: 
    Sculpture depicts the lifelong friendship of Osage Chief Baconrind and Colonel E. Walters. The two figures are shaking hands. The Chief wears a beaver cap and a cloak. Walters wears a suit with trousers tucked into his boots and holds his hat in his proper left hand. They stand on a two tiered base. The top tier is a plain pedestal and the lower tier is inset with rusticated stone margins.

    Remarks: 
    Erected by Colonel E. Walters in honor of his friendship with the Osage tribe, particularly Chief Baconrind. Walters had worked with the Osage on financial matters, including auctioning the tribe's mineral leased to oil companies. Walters is reportedly the author of "Legend" which appears on the base. IAS files include related articles from the Pawnee Courier-Dispatch & Times-Democrat, April 15, 1926 and April 30, 1926 and the Sunday Oklahoman, Nov. 13, 1994 and the text of "Legend."
