(On center front of base, plastic plaque:) The Trail of The Eagle/1990-1991/On August 1, 1990, American Artist Kenneth Walsh, set out on the Trail/of the Eagle, as a salute to the Nation/on this 200th anniversary of its Constitution./The trail followed an image of an eagle on/the United States, symbolizing 200 years of state hood/and freedom. He collected the symbols of freedom of/each state, and with the help of the people of/each state collected the Stars of each State/into the flag of freedom, the United States flag./This historic and patriotic 30,000 mile adventure will stand as a reminder to mankind/that the United States as a nation has/withstood 200 years of Liberty-Justice-and Freedom for all. unsigned

An eagle with outstretched wings stands ready to fly. It is created out of concrete and creek-rock or stone. The sculpture sits on concrete and stone base which is roped off on the front with a chain and post fence.

This sculpture commemorates "The Trail of the Eagle" project undertaken by artist Kenneth Walsh as a salute to the United States on the two-hundredth anniversary of the Constitution. On August 1, 1990, the artist set out from Washington, D.C. on a year long, 30,000 mile journey across the country. The journey followed the image of an American eagle on the United States map. During his journey he collected materials representing each state and in October 1992, he began the construction of a museum to house his collection and a monument celebrating the Trail of the Eagle. The Trail of the Eagle museum and monument were dedicated on April 25, 1993. IAS files contain the dedication program and copies of the artist's statements about his project.
