Description:
A Civil War soldier, dressed in a military uniform that includes a brimmed cap. He stands at parade rest, holding the barrel of a rifle with both hands, the butt resting at his feet. He wears a backpack and a scabbard hangs on his proper left side. The sculpture is placed atop a tall shaft, atop a two-tiered base. The uppermost section of the base contains names of battles (Antietam, Gettysburg, etc.), with names of military leaders (Hooker, Meade, etc.) underneath.

The sculpture was erected by the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Post 158. Two glazed ceramic tiles in concrete sidewalk surrounding monument read: G.A.R. POST/158/1911.
