Description:
A shirtless worker is bent at the waist, leaning forward to support the weight of an I-beam. He holds the beam at a forty-five degree angle, supporting the upper end of the beam with his proper right hand and guiding it into the ground with his proper left hand. His legs are spread apart with his proper left leg carrying his weight. The sculpture is mounted on a triangular, two-tiered base, centered in a small, circular plaza of brick and granite. The plaza includes an inner circle of granite blocks with eight names of workers' organizations.

Remarks:
The sculpture was erected by the Pennsylvania Worker Project. The base and landscape design were by Kay Wageneknecht-Harte. The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: THE PENNSYLVANIA WORKER/HONORS THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO BY VIRTUE OF/THEIR TALENTS, HARD LABOR AND DEVOTION HAVE/BUILT AND SHAPED THE DESTINY OF OUR GREAT/KEYSTONE STATE/COMMISSIONED BY GOVERNOR ROBERT P. CASEY AND/MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT/OF THE PENNSYLVANIA AFL-CIO, ITS AFFILIATES,/OTHER UNIONS AND INDIVIDUALS./DEDICATED ON SEPTEMBER 11. 1992 William F. Duffy, Sculptor. IAS files contain a dedication program and a full transcription of the names on plaza blocks.
