    Remarks:
By a special act of the state legislature May 6, 1919, provision was made to match County dollars up to $1,000 for a World War memorial. The total cost of the memorial was $2,7000; with additional funds raised through public subscription, with monies guaranteed by The Democrat-News. In June, upon receipt of the guarantee, the court made the order for the statue and the granite base through W. V. Tipping. IAS files contain an article from the Weekly Democrat-News dated October 13, 1927.
