    Remarks:
Charles Holt was born in nearby Willington, Connecticut in 1827. He began as an apprentice in the firm of Harvey and Washburn; in 1857, became superintendent of the Hydeville Manufacturing Company mill and eventually became its sole owner after it had become the Phoenix Woolen Company. In 1850, he was elected to the state legislature and was at one time President of the Stafford Savings Bank. He died in 1892. The fountain was erected in his honor by his daughter Celia Holt, and his second wife Johanna. The fountain originally had two lower troughs intended for dogs, in addition to the two high horse troughs which still exist. Flynt's Quarry (Manson, MA) supplied the granite.
