    Remarks:
In 1891, citizen subscriptions raised $400.00 for the purchase of the work from Mott Iron Works, New York through Wilder, Noyes & Co. Sometime prior to 1988, the fountain was toppled by a car. The pieces were then taken to Vermont Castings to be recast and a missing ram's head replaced. The female figure was set on display in the local bank to raise funds for the recasting which cost $8,000. IAS files contain a copy of the article from the St. Johnsbury Caledonian (St. Johnsbury, VT), Sept. 17, 1891, pg. 1. IAS files also contain an undated historical postcard.
