IAS files contain sketches and notes of remarks prepared by Lawrence Halprin for a Dec. 3, 1966 presentation to the other competition sculptors; an unidentified article on Halprin which includes additional statements by Halprin on the sculpture; an excerpt from The Arts Commission of San Francisco's "San Francisco Civic Art Collection: A Guided Tour to Publicly Owned Art of the City and County of San Francisco," San Francisco, CA: Arts Commission of San Francisco, 1989, pg. 18; and articles from the San Francisco Chronicle, Jan. 29, 1969; the San Francisco Sunday Examiner & Chronicle, Feb. 23, 1969; and This World, Jan. 12, 1969 which describe some of the controversy that developed concerning the design of the sculpture. IAS files also contain newspaper clipping from San Francisco Chronicle that discusses possible redesign of the site after the 1989 earthquake destruction of the nearby Embarcardero Freeway.
