    Remarks:
The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: IN PERPETUAL REMEMBRANCE, THE NAMES OF OUR MANY FRIENDS AND BENEFACTORS HAVE BEEN WRITTEN ON A RIBBON AND ENCLOSED HEREIN AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS, AS A SIGN OF OUR GRATITUDE, AND A PLEDGE OF OUR LOVE AND DEVOTION TO THE MERCIFUL SAVIOR.
The sculpture was cleaned in May 1992 by the Jensen Foundation for Art Conservation, Education and Research, based in Omaha, Nebraska. The bronze sculpture was walnut shelled and a new brown patina was applied; the wooden cross was repainted. IAS files contain articles from the Straitsland Resorter, June 18, 1992, pg. 1-3 and pg. 24-25; the Petoskey News-Review, June 16, 1992, pg. 1-2; and The Graphic, June 18, 1992, pg. 26-28; and a brochure for "The Cross in the Woods."
