    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain related articles from the Virginia Free Press, May 27, 1915, pg. 2 and July 1, 1915, pg. 2, and additional bibliographic citations. Erected by the state of West Virginia under the auspices of the Rumseyan Society, the monument was designed by a New York sculptor. The contract for $15,200 was awarded to the Forbes Company of Chambersburg, PA. It is built on a rocky cliff overlooking the Potomac River, where James Rumsey first demonstrated steam navigation.
