Administered by Aquinas College, 1607 Robinson Road, S.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506
Located Aquinas College, East Fulton, Sister's Residence, entrance, Grand Rapids, Michigan
Provenance:
Formerly in the collection of Lowe, Edward Jr., Mr. & Mrs., Holmdene, Grand Rapids, Michigan
Remarks:
The lions were likely purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lowe, Jr., on one of the family's trips to Europe. They may have been chosen because lions are part of the Royal Arms of England. Mr. and Mrs. Lowe were the original owners of the Holmdene estate, which is now the Sister's Residence. The estate was purchased in 1939 by the University of Grand Rapids (Davenport College), and in 1945 the Dominican Sisters purchased the property and Aquinas College moved from downtown Grand Rapids to its present location.
