Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Two pre-Columbian spheres in individual circular basins. Each basin is mounted in a circular base. Formerly located Near Palmar Sur in delta of Disquis River, Costa Rica Remarks:  Initiated by the Fairmount Park Art Association. The two spheres were acquired in 1969 by the Fairmount Park Art Association through the cooperation of the Costa Rican government and the United Fruit Company. The spheres are from a site near Palmar Sur in the delta of Costa Rica's Disquis River. In Costa Rica, hand-shaped spheres like these are often set on graves or arranged in patterns suggesting astronomical alignments.
