    Description: 
    An abstract sculpture made of forged iron painted black depicts an an Olympic runner in long stride. The sculpture is mounted on top of a base that consists of two granite piers on top of a two-tiered brick platform with a plaque on the lower tier.

    The sculpture was installed in front of the artist's Lynchburg home until his death in 1994, when it was given to the City of Lynchburg. The SOS! survey report lists dedication date as Sept. 22, 1994; date on inscription plaque says dedicated Sept. 21, 1994. IAS files contain a related clipping from The News & Advance (Virginia), Sept. 23, 1994, pg. B-1; and excerpt from "Umana: His Iron Work," Lynchburg, VA: Editions Heraclita, 1994.
