Sculpture was originally sponsored by Flathead Legion Post 7 of Kalispell. $400.00 towards the cost of the monument was paid for by the people of Somers community. J.J. Tucker provided the granite base. Sculpture was originally located on Main Street in Kalispell, but was relocated in 1972 because vehicles occasionally ran into it.
