    Description: 
    The monument consists of a round shaft with a bullet-shaped top. It stands on a squared pedestal and two-tiered base. There is a band of stars near the top of the shaft and a relief a palm branch and wreath towards the middle. There is a round State Seal on the front of the pedestal.

    Remarks: 
    The monument marks the first line of battle held by the 82nd Illinois Infantry prior to their retreat to East Cemetery Hill. The monument is listed on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures (referred to as MN 58) and is referenced in the Gettysburg National Military Park Archives, vol. 12. IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
