Description:
A uniformed Union Civil War soldier stands at parade rest, his hands around the barrel of his musket near his waist, the butt of which rests at his feet. He is dressed in an overcoat with a forage cap and has a bayonet on his belt. The sculpture is mounted atop a base composed of a center, taller, inscribed, polished granite block flanked by two polished granite blocks, resting on a horizontal polished granite block, atop a gray, unpolished block of granite.

Remarks:
The monument cost in excess of $2,000 and commemorates the 1,500 men from Perry County who fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. It was installed by the Sons of Veterans and Auxiliary. Fundraising for the monument began in 1917. The monument was designed by the Excelsior Granite Company and erected by W. D. Brewer & Sons. The monument was originally located on the northeast corner of the courthouse square lawn until it was moved to the northwest corner due to street widening.
